ATLANTIS, Fla. - This week, the South Florida PGA Junior Challenge Tour presented by The Honda Classic held Challenge Event #9 on the East Course at Hunters Run Golf & Racquet Club in Boynton Beach, FL. The event was shortened to 18 holes due to weather.
Lake Worth native Tyler Stachkunas had a career day on the East Course of Hunters Run. Stachkunas fired a round of 5-under-par 66, which featured 8 birdies on his card. Stachkunas captured the overall boy's title by three strokes. Lighthouse Point native Jon Mourin, Miami Lakes native Luke Clanton, and Wellington native Fernando Castillo each fired rounds of 2-under-par 69's. Clanton would take home the boy's 13-15 age division, while Loxahatchee native Zach Mize would take home the boy's 16-18 age division.
Doral native Agatha Alesson is making a name for herself on the Challenge Tour. Alesson, who won Challenge Tour event #8, managed to capture her second straight victory this week after a round of 1-over-par 72. Alesson edged our Boca Raton native Chloe Kovelesky by one stroke to capture the girl's title. Kovelesky would take home the girl's 13-15 age division, while Palm Beach Gardens native Anna Rippert took home the girl's 16-18 age division.
Boca Raton native Alex Heard captured his 3rdChallenge Tour victory of the season in the boy's 11-12 age division this week. Heard fired a round of 1-under-par 70 to capture the title. Weston native Gabriela Sierra captured her 3rd victory of the season in the girl's 11-12 age division. Sierra fired a 5-over-par 76.
The SFPGA Junior Tour presented by The Honda Classic is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 11-18 in South Florida with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the High School and Collegiate level and features some of South Florida's most talented junior golfers. The Junior Tour offers twenty-five two day championship events for junior golfers in South Florida. The 28 events are divided between the Championship Tour, an invitational tour featuring extended yardages, and the Challenge Tour.
