Atlantis, Fl - The South Florida PGA Prep Tour was in full swing this weekend as over 120 juniors took part in two separate 18-hole events at The Country Club of Coral Springs and Trident Golf Club on Sunday.
At The Country Club of Coral Springs, in the boys 13-18 division, Kalani Centeno of North Miami and Owen Mitnitsky of Jupiter both concluded play at 3-over 74. Centeno would ultimately claim the title, winning in a scorecard playoff with a 2-over 37 on the back-nine.
In the girls 13-18 division, Ashley Balcom of Lighthouse Point wrapped play at 6-over 77, finishing in first place by one shot over Avery Deal of Naples. With the win, Balcom now has two wins on the Prep Tour this season and has finished in the top-2 in the three events she has competed in.
In his second event on the Prep Tour, Patrick Pinkney of Lauderhill concluded play tied for the lowest round at 1-over 72, winning the boys 11-12 division by six shots. Pinkney led the field with five birdies. For the girls 11-12 division, Bella Simoes of Aventura also matched the tournament low round with a 1-over 72, winning by 12 shots. Simoes carded only three bogeys to go along with two birdies on the day.
Winning the boys 9-10 division, while also firing a 1-over 72, Chris Nana Tanke of Palm Beach Gardens has now finished in the top-5 in each of the four events he has participated in during the 2022 season. On the girls side, Myla Kumar of Pompano Beach finished with a 19-over 90.
At Trident Golf Club, Charly Pinel of Beaumont Quebec, playing in his first event with the Prep Tour, concluded play with a tournament low 3-under 68, holding off Andrew Stein and Brooks Hansen of Jupiter by one shot.
In the girls 13-18 division, winning by six shots, Esther Li of Jupiter wrapped play at 4-over 75, her third top-5 finish of the season.
In the 11-12 division, Aahan Asthana of Jensen Beach claimed the boys title with a 1-over 72 while Olivia Hartman of Palm Beach Gardens won the girls side with a 9-over 80. Lastly, Daniel Barcenas of Weston won the boys 9-10 division with a 13-over 84.
