ATLANTIS, Fla. - This week, the South Florida PGA Junior Challenge Tour presented by The Honda Classic held Challenge Event #8 at Plantation Preserve Golf Course in Plantation, FL.
Wellington native Cameron Owens got off to a hot start on Wednesday and never looked back. Owens fired an opening round 4-under-par 68 which featured 5 birdies to just one bogey on the day. Doral native Manuel Romero found himself in second place after an opening round even-par 72. Owens put together a steady final round even-par 72 to capture the overall boy's title by five strokes. Plantation native Jackson Kustin would take home the boy's 13-15 age division, while Romero would take home the boy's 16-18 age division title.
The girl's 13-18 age division featured some outstanding play this week. Coral Gables native Tanya Eathakotti fired a 5-under-par 67 which included 8 birdies on the day. Doral resident Agatha Alesson played in the group behind Eathakotti during round 1 and managed to keep pace with her by posting a 4-under-par 68. Eathakotti kept her momentum going during Thursday's final round and posted a 1-over-par 73 to capture the overall girl's title. Boca Raton native Chloe Kovelesky would take home the girl's 13-15 age division, while Alesson would take home the girl's 16-18 age division.
The boy's 11-12 age division featured a great amount of excitement this week. Boca Raton native Alex Heard and North Palm Beach native NaShawn Tyson each posted a two-day total of 142 to send the division to a sudden death playoff. Heard managed to outlast Tyson in the 5 hole sudden death playoff to capture the title. Weston native Gabriella Sierra took home the girl's 11-12 age division.
The SFPGA Junior Tour presented by The Honda Classic is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 11-18 in South Florida with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the High School and Collegiate level and features some of South Florida's most talented junior golfers. The Junior Tour offers twenty-five two day championship events for junior golfers in South Florida. The 28 events are divided between the Championship Tour, an invitational tour featuring extended yardages, and the Challenge Tour.
