The 2023 South Florida PGA Junior Prep Tour opened the 2023 season with a double-header on both coasts of Florida this weekend. Hosted by Shell Point in Fort Myers and PGA National - Estates in Palm Beach Gardens, the Prep Tour welcomed 156 juniors over the two days.
The official Prep Tour season kicked off on Saturday at Shell Point where the 78-player field battled windy conditions. The day was highlighted by an ace from Kristian Eakins of Fort Lauderdale on the ninth hole.
Joe Smillie of Bradenton (78) won the Boy’s 13-18 Division by a stroke, holding off Emilio Katsilometes (79) of Weston and Caden Kellum (80) of Fort Myers.
The lowest round of the day came from Sebastian Eterovic of Coral Gables who fired a two-over 73 to win the Boy’s 11-12 Division by five strokes. To round out the boy divisions, Kash Letrille of Naples won the boy’s 9-10 division with an 86.
Paulina Ramirez of Pembroke Pines (88) used two birdies to win the Girl’s 13-18 Division by a stroke, beating Petra Compton of Palmetto Bay and Hayden Nason of Naples. Additionally Bella Michetti of Naples shot the lowest round of the day amongst all females, carding a 76, enough to win the Girl’s 11-12 Division, 10 clear of Sara Valentine of West Palm Beach.
To close out day one of the Prep Tour weekend, Larissa Wheelless of Miami shot an 84 to win the Girl’s 9-10 Division.
On the East Coast, the Prep Tour took on PGA National - Estates on Sunday, day two of the double-header. Connor Sloss of Vero Beach led the way with the lowest score (74) carded, taking home first place honors in the boys 13-18 division.
In the Boy’s 11-12 division, Atharva Rajeshkumar from Coral Gables edged out Dylan Schilling from Port Saint Lucie in a scorecard playoff after both players turned in a five-over 77. The Boy’s 9-10 division also ended in a scorecard playoff with Jack Smith (85) of Miami Springs just beating Atlas Andrews (85) of West Palm Beach.
Alyna Yensabail of Lake Worth won the Girl’s 11-12 division with a 12-over 84, finishing just ahead of Stella Ronja of Doral (85) and Katrina Marie Gonzalez of Coral Gables (85).
While Reese McMillan of Jupiter led the entire field with five birdies on the day, Laney Ryan of Vero Beach pulled out the win after a scorecard playoff with both players finishing at 78.
The Prep Tour is the intermediate level on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour, featuring 18-hole events at courses across south Florida. The Prep Tour will be back in action on March 4th at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.
