As the sun rose over the fairways at BallenIsles Country Club, Aiden Miller and Luke Wise teed off together for their final round of golf as competitors, friends and teammates on the South Florida PGA Callaway Medalist Tour.
This year’s SFPGA Junior Cup, held on BallenIsles’ newly renovated East Course in July, brought together the top junior golfers in the region. The 54-hole tournament had a bittersweet significance for Miller and Wise, as it marked the end of an era before they embarked on their collegiate journeys—Miller heading to The Ohio State University and Wise to Guilford College.
Their friendship began at The Benjamin School, where they both made the high school golf team. Initially, it was their shared love of golf that brought them together, as they regularly played on the same courses. However, it was not long before they realized they had another important connection: the SFPGA Junior Tour. Miller had been a member since 2017, and when Wise joined in 2020, their paths on the tour intertwined.
“It kinda just all clicked naturally,” Miller recalled. “We are honestly very opposite people, but for some reason, it works.”
Their bond deepened during a 2021 Challenge Tour event at Vineyards Country Club in Naples. It was the first time they were paired together in a tournament, and that round marked a turning point in their friendship as their connection went beyond the game.
“That’s when we really started to get closer as friends,” Miller added.
For nearly half a decade, Miller and Wise were inseparable on the Junior Tour. Their journey together was marked by countless rounds, shared victories and a deep bond forged through the game they loved.
“Playing together makes it all worth it,” Miller remarked. “Especially when we see each other win. It’s always been about more than just the game.”
So when both Miller (74-77-75-226) and Wise (80-78-81-239) made the cut at the SFPGA Junior Cup, there was reason to celebrate as they got to tee it up one more time together.
“That was the real victory,” Wise said. “Just knowing I’d get to play that last round with my friends.”
As they prepare to step into new chapters of their lives, both Miller and Wise look back on their time playing junior golf together as a cherished part of their story. While excited for what’s to come, they know the bond they’ve built through golf will remain strong.
“I’ll miss these moments with Luke,” Miller admitted. “But I’m excited for what’s ahead for both of us. We’ll stay connected and continue to support each other.”
Wise, who will play golf collegiately at Guilford College, shared similar sentiments. “It’s going to be different not playing alongside Aiden in tournaments,” he said. “But we’ve built a great friendship through golf, and I know that won’t change, even as we go our separate ways.”
Miller and Wise’s friendship is a testament to the enduring bonds formed through shared passions and experiences. As they step into new chapters of their lives, their time together on the Junior Tour remains a cherished foundation, one that will inspire them as they take on new challenges.
Their journey with the SFPGA has been about more than golf; it has been about building a lasting friendship that will continue to shape their futures, on and off the course.
