ATLANTIS, Fla. - This weekend, the South Florida PGA Junior Challenge Tour presented by The Honda Classic held Challenge Tour Event #3 at Lost City Golf Club in Atlantis, FL. The course was in perfect shape, but each competitor had to battle against fast greens, warm temperatures, and a steady breeze all weekend.
Frank Kennedy, of Jupiter, FL played in his first Challenge Tour event ever. Opening with one under par (71), Kennedy had the lead by two strokes! Not far behind was Carson Baez (73) of Palmetto Bay, FL and Reed Greyserman (74) of Boca Raton, FL. All players had a great round of golf on Sunday, but had a little more wind to play with than round 1. Kennedy ended up shooting a 73 to capture the Boys Overall 13-18 Division. After a scorecard playoff between Baez and Greyserman, Baez (151) took home first place in the Boys 13-15 age division. In the Boys 16-18 Division, Richard Russekoff took home first place shooting 77-78.
In the Girls Division, Hope Hall of Boca Raton, FL opened with an impressive 75 on Saturday. Just behind Hall was Cynthia Liu (77) of Parkland, FL and Taylor Oberparleiter (78) of Jupiter, FL. The girls knew they would have a close match up on Sunday and had to stay focused on every shot. Liu, came back with another strong score of 77 to secure the Girls Overall 13-18 Division. Hall and Oberparleiter were just behind Liu taking home their respective age divisions. Hall ended up posting 75-82 to take home the Girls 13-15 age divison, Oberparleiter went 78-79 for another great weekend and her second Girls 16-18 division win in a row.
In the Boys 11-12 division, we had a very close match up and a lot of low scores after round one. Tyler Chapman, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL lead after round one with an outstanding 72. Right behind Chapman, was Eric Nguyen (74) and Pavel Tsar (74), two players that have multiple wins with the SFPGA on both Prep and Challenge Tours. On Sunday, Chapman was on fire with 4 birdies and no bogeys, securing his victory seamlessly. In the Girls 11-12 Division, we had 4 players within 2 strokes after round 1, Polina Anisimov, of Port St. Lucie, FL was just out in front with a 78. All girls knew it could be a toss up on Sunday with anyone taking home the victory. At the end of round 2, Alana Hall (80-75) of Boca Raton, FL shot an outstanding 75 to claim first place by just one stroke.
