Last week, Taylor Collins, PGA won the South Florida PGA Southern Chapter DEK Roofing Classic at Plantation Preserve Golf Course and Club. One of just two girls in the field, Collins carded a seven-under 65 to win her most recent event with the South Florida PGA.
Collins is set to tee it up again with the South Florida PGA Section this week at the South Florida PGA Assistant Championship, held again at the Plantation Preserve Golf Course and Club. Her seven-under a week ago at the same venue, coupled with a long history of winning makes Collins one to beat this week.
While the DEK Roofing Classic was the first event Collins has won as a PGA Professional with the Section, Collins was a standout on the South Florida PGA Junior Tour, winning many events from 2004-07 while being coached by PGA Hall of Fame instructor Bob Toski, PGA.
Collins went on to compete at Nova Southeastern University where she was a five-time winner, including the 2011 individual medalist at the NCAA Division II National Championship, helping to cap the third consecutive Division II National Championship for Nova Southeastern as a team. The 2009 title was the first ever by a Nova team across all sports and raised the standard for the athletic department at the time.
After college, her success on the course continued. Collins was invited to compete on the Symetra Tour, including a T-4 finish, won the Big Break Mexico and in 2019 was inducted into the Nova Southeastern Hall of Fame.
Now, Collins serves as an Assistant PGA Professional at Coral Ridge Country Club and spends much of her time coaching junior golfers, bringing the game full circle, having learned herself from a top PGA Professional.
Collins is the only female set to compete in this week's PGA Assistant Professional Championship at Plantation Preserve Golf Course and Club where the top five players and four alternates will qualify for the 2020 National Car Rental Assistant PGA Championship set to be held November 12-15 at the PGA Golf Club's Wanamaker course in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The 2020 South Florida PGA Assistant Championship is presented by National Car Rental and supported by Srixon/Cleveland/XXIO/Asics, John Deere and the PGA TOUR.
