Coming out on top in the boys division, Enzo Barbaglia of Johannesburg, South Africa finished the 3-day Major at even-par 70-74-72–216.
Barbaglia managed to card eight brides over the 54 holes with three of them coming on the par-5 first hole.
“My favorite hole of the course was the first hole, I birdied it all three days so that's probably why it's my favorite,” he said.
With the conditions changing each day and the wind playing a major role, staying in play was a key goal he said.
“Off the tee I was pretty accurate, I didn't lose a lot of golf balls, so I was always in play which helped a lot, he said.” Also, my putting was really decent inside ten feet, it saved me on some holes.”
Vilda Westh Blanc of Wartrace, Tennessee finished first in the girls division with scores of 73-76-77–226 10-over.
Blanc credited her ability to get off the tee as the main part of her game that allowed her to be so successful over the three days.
“The best part of my game this week was off the tee, it didn't really cost me any shots, that was solid all three days,” she said.
Blanc said she was happy with how she was able to manage her consistent play throughout tough conditions each day.
“I thought the wind was really tough, so I had to make some changes as needed,” she said
“Coming out on top with conditions like this really helps my confidence, I was able to push through the tough slumps during three days and it really feels good.”
Coming in second in the boys division, James Earle of Jupiter concluded play at 7-over 70-78-75–223
Even with the conditions, Earle was able to sink 11 birdies over the three days, tied for the most of any player in the field. Three of those birdies coming on the par-4 18th.
Finishing runner up in the girls division, Ariana Silva of Fort Lauderale handed in scorecards of 75-78-75–227 11-over, just one shot back of the winner. Silva had the most pars of any girls over the 54-hole stretch with 36.
The three-day, 54-hole Major consisted of 83 South Florida PGA Junior Tour members with both champions receiving four AJGA stars while the top-10 in each division received one.
The South Florida PGA Winter Kickoff is the first of eight Junior Majors to be played throughout the 2022 season.
