NAPLES, FL - After three days of play at the beautiful Naples Beach Golf Club, Chad Tracy and Hina Matsui held on to win the 2019 South Florida Junior Open titles in the Boy's and Girl's 13-18 division, respectively.
Tracy (2019), the Naples High School product, carded a five-under 66 on Wednesday to open the tournament, building a four-stroke lead that proved to be enough to edge out Garrett Giles (2020) of Palm City who won the South Florida Junior PGA Championship in June.
After splitting a pair of 75's on day two and 71's today with Giles, Tracy's lead never wavered. Despite a triple bogey on hole 10 during the final round, Tracy made four birdies, including three on the back nine to stay even for the tournament and clinch the victory. The incoming Thomas University (NAIA) freshman avenged a third-place 2018 finish to win his first South Florida PGA Junior Tour Major victory.
Tracy, who graduated from Naples High School in May, is the son of PGA member and Naples High School golf coach Don Tracy. The duo helped the Naples High School boy's golf team win back-to-back regional titles.
In the Girl's Division, Matsui (2021) used a first-round 69 to take the lead and never look back. The Port St. Lucie resident shot a 71 in the second round to build a 10-stroke lead headed into this morning's final round.
Leading aside, Matsui wasn't finished. The 16-year-old carded six birdies today to shoot 68 for a three-day total of 208, the lowest of any player in the field this week, boy or girl.
Jenna Fonda (2020) of Wellington, shook off a first-round 78 with a 72 and 74 (224) to finish with solo runner-up honors.
The 54-hole, stroke-play event welcomed over 90 of South Florida's best junior golfers, aged 11-18, to Naples Beach Golf Club for the third major of the South Florida PGA Junior Tour's season.
