South Florida PGA Junior Tour Hosts First Event Since Early March
The South Florida PGA Junior Tour is back in action after holding the Prep Tour Event #3 on Sunday at Boca Lago Country Club on the South and East Courses. The rain held off for the 18-hole event and the field of 78 juniors competed for the first time since early March when the SFPGA stopped all events over concerns surrounding COVID-19.
Winning the first event back in the boys 11-12 division, Wylie Inman carded a 72 for the day to take the top honor. Thomas Nevico and Hugo Stenstrom tied for second in the division after both players turned in scores of 85.
Alexander Huddas captured first place in the boys 13-18 division with a score of 76. The second-place spot was split four ways between James Earle, Jack Earle, Michael DeFloria, and Nick Viana after all players carded an 80 for the day.
For the boys 9-10 division, Gabriel Boone took home first place with a score of 74, and Alen Gurdogan and Tyler Lilienfeld tied for second place after both shooting 75.
Angela Jiang had the low round in the girls 11-12 division after shooting 81 and Valentina Hurtado filled the second-place spot in the division with a score of 85.
In the girls 13-18 division, Samantha Shann carded a score of 88 earning herself the first-place spot. closely behind her with a score of 89 was Zoe Shamny who took home second place.
With the overall low score of the day, Marley Pedrique took how first place in the girls 9-10 division after putting up a score of 71.Fernanda Carrion filled the second-place spot in the division with a score of 78.
In accordance with local rules and club guidelines, the SFPGA Junior Tour Prep Tour Event #3 looked a bit different with emphasis placed on social distancing Additionally, players were asked to wear masks at all times in common areas such as the scoring table, driving range and Pro Shop, while not on the course. Despite these changes, the junior golfers were able to enjoy the company of their peers and have a fun yet challenging day of golf.
