ATLANTIS, Fla. – This week, the South Florida PGA Junior Challenge Tour presented by The Honda Classic held Challenge Event #7 at Fort Lauderdale Country Club in Fort Lauderdale, FL.  The event was shortened to 18 holes due to inclement weather during Thursday’s round. 

Delray Beach native Morgan Tournemire got off to a hot start during Wednesday’s round.  Tournemire fired a 3-under-par 33 on the front nine which included 3 birdies with no bogies.  Tournemire would fire off two more birdies on the back 9 to just one bogey to card a 4-under-par 68 on the South Course at Fort Lauderdale.  Tournemire would go on to take home the overall boy’s title by four strokes.  Naples native Joey Burke and Palm City native Garrett Giles would each capture the boy’s 13-15 age division, while Fort Lauderdale native Mason Tilbrook would take home the boy’s 16-18 age division.

Palm Beach Gardens native Sophia Mancuso had a strong outing at her first SFPGA Junior Event.  Mancuso fired a 1-over-par 73 to capture the overall girl’s title.  Mancuso eagled the par-5 6th hole during her round.  Miami native Gabriella Chavez would capture the girl’s 13-15 age division, while Jupiter native Brianna Farrell would take home the girl’s 16-18 age division. 

The boy’s and girl’s 11-12 age division were fortunate to complete all 36 holes before the storms rolled in.  Boca Raton native Alex Heard would take home the boy’s 11-12 age division after firing rounds of 68-74.  Jupiter native Isabel Lauhle would take home the girl’s 11-12 age division after rounds of 72-81.

The SFPGA Junior Tour presented by The Honda Classic is a membership-based tour open to boys and girls ages 11-18 in South Florida with the aspirations and skill levels to compete at the High School and Collegiate level and features some of South Florida’s most talented junior golfers. The Junior Tour offers twenty-five two day championship events for junior golfers in South Florida. The 28 events are divided between the Championship Tour, an invitational tour featuring extended yardages, and the Challenge Tour.
