ATLANTIS, Fla. – This week, the South Florida PGA Junior Championship Tour presented by The Honda Classic held the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Junior Championship at The Old Course at Broken Sound.  The field featured many of South Florida’s top junior golfers.

Boca Raton native Evan Hoppenstein has faced tremendous adversity over the past nine months.  In October of 2016, Hoppenstein was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkins Lymphoma, specifically Burkitt ’s lymphoma, which is one of the fastest growing cancers. Evan spent over twelve weeks undergoing chemotherapy, surgeries, and scans.  Evan is now cancer free and has been in remission for the last 4 months. He was able to return to competitive golf earlier this year and today he returned to the winners circle.  Hoppenstein fired rounds of 70 and 71 to finish the event at 3-under-par and take home the overall boy’s title.  Boca Raton native Frankie Harris captured the boys 13-15 age division, while Boca Raton native Chris DiBetta took home the boys 16-18 age division title.

Miami native Cassandra Chen captured her first victory of the 2017 season.  Chen went wire to wire this week after rounds of 75 and 77 to capture the overall girl’s title on the demanding Old Course at Broken Sound.  Coral Springs native Amanda Okulanis took home the girls 16-18 age division, while Delray Beach native Makenna Rodriguez captured the girls 13-15 age division.
