MUTTILLO AND SHIN WIN SKIMP BELT JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

ATLANTIS, Fla. – This weekend, the South Florida PGA Junior Championship Tour presented by The Honda Classic held the Skimp Belt Junior Championship at Indian Spring Country Club on the West Course in Boynton Beach, FL.

Anthony Muttillo of Boca Raton started off by firing a 1-under-par 70 on the West Course and Indian Spring to give himself a one stroke lead over Boca Raton native James Nieporte.  Jeffery Liss of Port Saint Lucie, Alec Quiroga of Davie and Kristian Fortis of Ocean Reef each fired one-over-par 73’s to keep themselves within striking distance of Muttillo.  Sunday’s final round featured strong winds gusting over 30 mph with on and off rain throughout the day, making it extremely difficult to score.  Liss made a strong final round push, firing a 1-over-par 72.  Despite Liss’s strong effort, Muttillo remained smooth on Sunday by firing a 1-over-par 72 to capture the overall boy’s title.  Liss would go on to take home the boys 13-15 age division title, while Quiroga would take home the boys 16-18 age division.

The girl’s division featured some outstanding play during Saturday’s opening round.  Lake Worth native Serina Combs started off round one by posting a 2-under-par 69 to take the early lead in the girl’s division.  Jupiter native Sophia Dieter and Doral native Skylee Shin each fired 1-under-par 70’s to find themselves one stroke off the lead.  Combs and Shin battled all round on Sunday, but 36 holes wasn’t enough to settle the event.  The two ladies would enter a sudden death playoff after each posting a tournament total of 142.  During the first playoff hole, Shin managed to grind out a par to win the overall girl’s title over Combs and claim her 3rd victory of the year.  Miami native Phoebe Beber-Frankel would take home the girls 13-15 age division title, while Combs would claim the girls 16-18 age division title.
